Empowering Vulnerable Children: Our Story

Abnaa Alghad Foundation, known as 'Banati,' embarked on its journey in 2010 with a mission to protect and/support children at risk. including those living in street situations and those deprived of parental care. As an Egyptian local developmental institution, we are registered with the Ministry of Solidarity under registration number 615 for the year 2012.

Not every girl will be fully free of her past, but every day Banati helps them take a step forward. Seeing their smiles and enjoying their warm hugs is the best gift.

Our Vision:

At Banati Foundation, we envision a world where every child at risk is given a second chance-a chance to overcome their challenging psycho-social conditions and emerge as empowered, contributing members of society.

Our Mission:

To be a center of excellence in rehabilitation and research serving girls at risk by developing a unique social and psychological rehabilitation program and providing education, safety and equal opportunity, through advocacy, capacity building and development of a rehabilitation methodology used by staff and partners.

How we work:

Banati Foundation operates through a holistic, multi-stage model designed to provide a continuous and integrated cycle of care for children and young women at risk.

Our work begins with proactive outreach through the Mobile Unit, which serves as the first point of contact with children living in vulnerable conditions. The unit provides immediate support including healthcare, food, clothing, and psychological first aid, while building trust and assessing individual needs.

This is followed by engagement at our Reception Center in Old Cairo, where children access daily services focused on stabilization and reconditioning. Through structured activities, psychosocial support, and safe nurturing environments, children begin their journey toward recovery and trust-building.

For children requiring protection and deeper intervention, they are referred to our Temporary Shelter, where comprehensive assessments are conducted. During this phase, individualized case plans are developed, focusing on either safe family reintegration or transition to long-term care.

Children who are unable to return safely to their families are then supported through our Permanent Shelter in 6th of October, where we provide holistic, long-term care. This includes education, mental and physical healthcare, life skills development, and empowerment programs, all designed to support rehabilitation and future independence.

Across all stages, Banati ensures a child-centered, trauma-informed, and rights-based approach, maintaining continuity of care and tailored interventions that respond to each child’s evolving needs.
